Yellowstone's Paramount+ Record Has Been Beaten By Mastermind Creator Taylor Sheridan's New Show

Summary Taylor Sheridan's new show, Special Ops: Lioness, has broken viewership records and had the most-watched global series premiere in its first 24 hours, surpassing Yellowstone and previous record-holder Halo. The show follows Joe (Zoe Saldaña), a no-nonsense CIA operative, as she balances her personal and professional life while leading the war on terror by putting female operatives close to high-value targets. Despite mixed reviews compared to Yellowstone, the show is making a big impact on streaming and solidifying Taylor Sheridan's TV dominance.

Special Ops: Lioness, the new show from Taylor Sheridan, has had a record-breaking premiere on Paramount Plus, even beating Yellowstone. Premiering on the streaming service last month, Special Ops: Lioness is now several episodes into its debut season. The new series, which is based on a real CIA program, stars Zoe Saldaña as Joe, a no-nonsense operative attempting balance her personal and professional life while spearheading the war on terror.

As new episodes of Special Ops: Lioness continue to release, Deadline now reports that the new series has broken a viewership record. Paramount Plus claims that the show had the most-watched global series premiere in its first 24 hours, beating Yellowstone and the previous record-holder, Halo. The first two episodes of Special Ops: Lioness premiered on Paramount Plus and on Paramount Network simultaneously, while the remaining episodes of the season will only be watchable on the streaming service.

What Is Special Ops: Lioness About?

Taking inspiration from a real CIA program, Special Ops: Lioness chronicles Joe's attempts to put female operatives close to high-value terrorist targets. While still working through the guilt she feels from one such operation gone wrong, the show features Joe finding an ideal recruit with Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira), a skilled and determined Force Recon Marine.

While following Cruz on her high-stakes undercover operation, the Special Ops: Lioness story also delves into Joe's personal life. Saldaña's character may be highly effective at her job, but it has clearly come at the cost of her relationship to her family. Joe is hardly around, which has not only resulted in a very unorthodox dynamic with her husband, Neil (Dave Annable), but has also strained her relationship with her daughter.

Nicole Kidman is also part of the impressive Special Ops: Lioness cast, playing Kaitlyn Meade, Joe's supervisor and a high-ranking CIA official. Other actors in the show include Michael Kelly, LaMonica Garrett, and Jill Wagner, with Morgan Freeman also slated to appear. While the Special Ops: Lioness reviews haven't been very positive and pale in comparison to Yellowstone's, the new show is evidently making quite a splash on streaming as Sheridan's TV dominance continues.
