Daryl Dixon Show Will Be Walking Dead's Most "Standalone" Show Yet, EP Teases New Approach To Franchise
2023/07/04

"The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," the upcoming spinoff series featuring Norman Reedus' character, will be a more standalone story within The Walking Dead universe. Set after the events of the original series, the show follows Daryl as he wakes up in France with no memory of how he got there and tries to find his way back to Virginia while uncovering the mystery of his arrival overseas.

Director Greg Nicotero mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that this spinoff will be the closest to a standalone show fans will ever get. It aims to explore a completely different world, introducing new characters, themes, and offering a fresh extension of the genre.

While viewers will see Daryl in new and exotic locations, it won't be more of the same.

Although Daryl is the farthest away from the rest of the core survivors geographically, he won't be alone in France. It has been confirmed that Carol will also appear in "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," indicating that both characters will be trying to find their way back to Alexandria. However, the fact that this spinoff takes a more standalone approach raises questions about the fate of Daryl and Carol in the wider Walking Dead universe.

If their adventure in France is detached from the rest of the franchise, it suggests that the chances of Daryl reuniting with Rick Grimes or other core survivors are slim.

Despite the possibility that Daryl was taken to France by the CRM, it seems that he and Rick may remain apart until the end of The Walking Dead universe.

Nevertheless, the standalone nature of "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" doesn't rule out the possibility of a crossover featuring other core survivors in the future. The series could be building towards Daryl's eventual return to Virginia, which could lead to a larger role for him in the wider universe of The Walking Dead.

For now, it appears that Daryl's adventures in France will be distinctly separate from the other spinoffs being produced. The show offers a unique and independent storyline while still leaving room for potential connections and crossovers down the line. Fans can anticipate an exciting and refreshing extension of the franchise with "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon."
