Outlander season 7, episode 1 hinted at what happened to Richard Brown, the main instigator of Fraser's Ridge's protest against Claire. He used Malva's murder to avenge his brother's death and had a personal stake in the fight against Claire. While the books had Brown disappear after bringing Claire to New Bern, the TV series showed Jamie violently avenging Claire, possibly killing Brown and his descendants. Tom Christie's return in episode 4 closes the circle on Malva's tragic story, confirming that he didn't kill her and ended up free after the American Revolution.
