2023/12/13

Zac Efron has expressed his willingness to play the late Matthew Perry in a future biopic, following Perry's mention of Efron as his preferred choice for the role. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the world premiere of his new film, The Iron Claw, in Dallas, Texas, Efron stated that he would be honored to play Perry.

He also reflected on the time they spent together while filming the 2009 comedy 17 Again, calling Perry a mentor and reminiscing about the things he learned from him. Efron played a younger version of Perry's character in the film, which revolves around a man who gets a second chance at life by becoming a teenager again.

Perry had expressed his desire to have a biopic made about his life and wanted Efron to reprise his role.

Leslie Mann, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jim Gaffigan, and Thomas Lennon also star in 17 Again. Lennon recently paid tribute to Perry in a Variety article, speaking of his talent and his comedic abilities. Perry's family released a statement expressing their devastation over his tragic death. The Iron Claw, starring Efron, is set to be released on December 22nd.
