Matthew McConaughey's role in the Yellowstone spin-off has raised several questions and theories. While it was confirmed by a Paramount chief, negotiations are still ongoing. Creator Taylor Sheridan has hinted that the spin-off may be a standalone project, separate from the original show's cast and setting. 

He mentions the clash between traditional and modern ways of life, indicating that the story could be set in various locations such as Canada, Alaska, California, the Pacific northwest, or Kansas. The concept is still in its early stages, making it unlikely for the spin-off to immediately follow the events of Yellowstone Season 5.

 

Additionally, delays caused by Hollywood strikes have further complicated the timeline and hindered production. It remains unclear whether the new show will be set in the present day or in a historical period. While it seems probable that Season 5 of Yellowstone, the spin-off, and Season 2 of 1923 will all be released in November 2024, no official announcements have been made.
