After more than a decade, The Walking Dead zombie virus origins have finally been revealed in the post-credits scene of The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 finale. It takes place in a biomedical facility in France where the virus originated from, and it's implied that the researchers had no intention of releasing it. 

The Daryl Dixon spinoff show will likely explore the TWD zombie virus ground zero in France since it's confirmed it will take Norman Reedus's character there. Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, believed that revealing the origins of the virus would make the show boring, but it's a necessary risk to set up future stories. Kirkman originally offered a different explanation for the TWD zombie origin involving space spores.
