Jennifer Aniston confessed she screamed with rage in the aftermath of her split from Brad Pitt as she saw pictures of him on holiday with the woman he left her for.
The Hollywood actress ended her marriage to Brad on January 7 2005, releasing a joint statement that denied swirling rumours about the actor's relationship with his Mr and Mrs Smith co-star Angelina Jolie.
The statement slammed the stories as tabloid gossip, but just weeks after they confirmed the end of the marriage, Pitt was seen in various exotic locations with Angelina.
The final straw came in April when Brad and Angelina were pictured frolicking on a beach together at a luxury resort in Africa, with the actor even seemingly taking on the role of dad to her adopted son Maddox.
In a later interview with Vanity Fair, Friends star Jennifer burst into tears when talking about her failed marriage - and how Brad had told her he wasn't leaving her for another woman.
She later confessed she regularly took herself outside of her Malibu beach house to scream in fury.
The actress explained: "Just being able to go to the water's edge and scream... Not too loudly. You don't want people to think that you're crazy. But it can be very cathartic."
When asked about the pictures of Brad on holiday with Angelina weeks after their split, Jennifer admitted she was totally blind-sided - as she believed him when he said there was nothing going on between them.
She said:"What we said [in the statement] was true as far as I knew. We wrote it together, very consciously, and felt very good about it.
"We exited this relationship as beautifully as we entered it."
Jennifer then told of her shock at seeing the pictures, which showed Brad and Angelina frolicking on the beach together at a luxury resort in Africa in April of that year.
She said: "The world was shocked, and I was shocked" and later likened the pain to grief.
Jennifer added: "There are many stages of grief. It's sad, something coming to an end.
"It cracks you open, in a way - cracks you open to feeling. When you try to avoid the pain, it creates greater pain."
In the Vanity Fair piece Kristin Hahn, an executive at the Pitts' production company Plan B, spoke out about how much Jennifer knew about Brad's relationship with Angelina.
Hahn insisted that Jennifer had her suspicions, but believed Brad when he said she wasn't the reason he wanted to end the marriage.
Hahn explained: "She wasn't naïve. She's not suggesting she didn't know there was an enchantment, and a friendship. But Brad was saying. 'This is not about another woman'."
The pair confirmed the end of their marriage in this statement: "We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate.
"For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media.
"This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration," the pair said in a joint statement. "We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another."
Brad went on to get serious with Angelina, adopting her son Maddox and two more, and going on to have three more biological children with her.
They married in 2014, but split in 2018.
Brad is now single after his divorce from Angelina was granted last year, and he's now rumoured to be he wooing back his first wife after their public display of affection at the recent SAG Awards.
