Need More Duttons? 1923 Won't Return for Awhile
2023/10/16

Production for the second season of the hit show 1923 has been put on hold indefinitely, leaving fans uncertain of when they will be able to see new content from the Yellowstone spinoff series. The delay is due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, and there is also the looming possibility of an actors' strike by the Screen Actors Guild (SGA).

This means that fans will have to wait a while before they can dive back into the world of the Dutton family. While Yellowstone's future remains uncertain, 1923 has enjoyed great success. The premiere episode drew in over 7.4 million viewers, breaking records for Paramount+.

The show takes viewers back in time to explore the origins of the fight for a piece of Montana land, featuring A-list actors Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, alongside Timothy Dalton, Brandon Sklenar, Michelle Randolph, and Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn.

The story also delves into the ancestry of Black Rock Reservation Chief Thomas Rainwater and a Dutton family member named Spencer, who embarks on big game hunting adventures in Africa. The first episode of 1923 premiered on the Paramount Network in December 2022, immediately following an episode of Yellowstone. However, the rest of the series has been streaming weekly on Paramount+.

The first season concluded in February 2023, and there are four more episodes planned for the upcoming season.

In the meantime, fans can watch 1923 Season One on Amazon Prime Video or stream it with a Paramount+ subscription. In the current season, the Dutton family faced significant losses after a shootout with sheep herder Banner Creighton. James Dutton of 1883 lineage eventually passes on the Yellowstone ranch to his brother Jacob, played by Harrison Ford, and his wife Cara, played by Helen Mirren. However, they need additional help to protect their land from those who want to claim it. Cara reaches out to her nephew Spencer, portrayed by Brandon Sklenar, who is a World War I veteran and big game hunter in Africa.

Spencer must embark on an adventure to return to his family in Montana and assist them. For fans who want to catch up on the original Yellowstone series, it can be a little tricky. Seasons One through Four are only available for streaming on Peacock, while Season Five can only be accessed through the Paramount Network app with a cable-subscription login. The spinoff shows, including 1883 and 1923, are exclusively available to Paramount+ subscribers.

Paramount+ is also home to other shows created by Yellowstone's creator Taylor Sheridan, such as Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, but they exist outside of the Yellowstone universe.

Although it may be confusing for fans to navigate different streaming platforms to catch up on the Yellowstone series, the captivating storyline and talented cast make it worth the effort. Hopefully, the delays caused by the strikes will be resolved soon, and viewers can look forward to more thrilling episodes of 1923 and the rest of the Yellowstone universe.
