Walking Dead: Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira Talk Richonne Romance

Season 6 of The Walking Dead introduced a surprising twist that polarized fans—the romantic relationship between Rick and Michonne, affectionately called "Richonne" by fans. This unexpected coupling became a love-it-or-hate-it topic among viewers. However, according to actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, the connection between their characters was inevitable.

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes interview for the upcoming release of Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD, Lincoln expressed his belief that Rick and Michonne's romance was the most natural progression. He admitted that he had always thought it was right in front of him. Gurira added that Michonne may have been in love with Rick for some time but had been emotionally closed off.

The turning point for their relationship came when Rick gave Michonne mints as a thoughtful gesture. According to Gurira, this moment showcased Rick's mission to take care of Michonne's needs—albeit in an apocalyptic context. Lincoln described their connection as a grown-up relationship that was meant to be.

Co-executive producer Denise Huth echoed the sentiment that Richonne was a natural progression in the story. Having known each other for a long time, these two characters had become crucial to one another. They shared a deep friendship, and their decision to let their guards down and explore a romantic bond stood out to Huth as a lovely moment.

Huth highlighted the rarity of such moments in The Walking Dead, emphasizing the significance of seeing these two friends recognize their deeper feelings for each other.

Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season, available on Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD from August 23, offers additional behind-the-scenes commentary, deleted scenes, extended episodes, and other fan features for enthusiasts of the show.
