Friends fans have been in a frenzy ever since Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer shared that they 'crushed hard' for one another whilst appearing on the hit sitcom.
The pair came clean about their chemistry off-screen during the Friends: The Reunion special hosted by James Corden.
And now, bosses from the American show have admitted that they had their suspicions about the pair - famed for playing Ross Geller and Rachel Green - being more than pals away from the cameras.
Kevin Bright, who directed Friends, has told that due to the two actors having sizzling chemistry on set that many suspected that things may not have been platonic between the pair.
He told : "It was a very hot topic on the set because the electricity between them in the scenes was like, ‘Oh my God, they can’t be acting that, there’s got to be something!’"
Kevin went on to add: “everybody was suspicious that something was going on."
Hinting that gossip started to circulate on set about the duo as their on-screen romance was off the charts, he also told: "People made up their own rumours at a certain point, but we all thought something might have been going on because they were just so good together."
Adding that it was a shame that David and Jennifer never got together in real life, their characters in the show did, he continued: "There was something about them. But like the show, in a certain way, you had to wait a long time and then it never happened. The happy ending is in the show."
It was not just Kevin who noticed fireworks as Friends creator Marta Kauffman also shared with the outlet that Jennifer and David's feelings for one another were "pretty obvious."
"We didn’t know for sure because we never asked either of them, but yes, we thought that perhaps might be going on," said Kauffman.
Jennifer and David's feelings came to light during the highly-anticipated one-off special, where James spoke to Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David about the sitcom and how it changed their lives.
At one point, the Gavin and Stacey star said he found it hard to believe that there weren’t any off-screen romances between them.
Jennifer looked a little coy as she grinned and said: "Well, errrr I mean, David…" before passing the comment to him.
"The first season, we… I had a major crush on Jen," the 54-year-old actor admitted as Jennifer butted in: "It was reciprocated!"
David continued: "And at some point we were both crushing hard on each other but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary, we respected that..." before Matt shouted: "Bulls**t!"
James looked stunned at Matt's comment and the rest of the cast laughed as he added: "I’m kidding!"
Jennifer then recalled: "I just remember honestly saying one time to David, ‘it’s gonna be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is gonna be on national television'... sure enough first time we kissed was in that coffee shop!"
The 52-year-old actress continued: "So we just channelled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel."
Jennifer and David also reenacted their memorable first kiss - they didn't actually kiss this time around, but read their lines instead.
"How did everyone not know we were crushing on each other?" David asked his co-stars as old footage of him and Jennifer played onscreen.
"We knew for sure!" they all admitted as Jennifer and David laughed.
All six of them were also in agreement that Ross and Rachel "were on a break" when he infamously cheated on her.
