Fear the Walking Dead executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis has discussed the significance of including key references to The Walking Dead in the spinoff's final season. The return of major locations from the flagship series, such as Morgan's house and the Sanctuary, provided closure for characters like Morgan and Dwight. 

The use of familiar settings also emphasized the conclusion of the shows that originally defined the franchise. While future spinoffs may still feature Fear the Walking Dead characters, the final season effectively closed the book on any returns from the spinoff.
