Why a 'Friends' Episode When Chandler Spoke the Least was Matthew Perry’s Favorite!
2023/12/13

Friends, the popular sitcom that aired 236 episodes over its 10-season run, holds a special place in the hearts of both fans and the cast. One cast member, Matthew Perry, revealed that his favorite episode was surprisingly one in which his trademark humor took a backseat.

In the season 1 episode titled "The One with the Blackout," Perry's character, Chandler Bing, finds himself stuck in an ATM vestibule during a city-wide power outage. To Perry's delight, his scene partner in this episode was the stunning Victoria's Secret model, Jill Goodacre. Reflecting on this episode in a 2004 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Perry disclosed, "Let's face it: Jill Goodacre is hot, so it wasn't that difficult.

" He went on to describe a memorable moment from filming when he spat out his gum and it hilariously stuck to the wall. Perry's choice to stay frozen in fear and embarrassment added to the comedic aspect of the scene.

However, what truly made this episode stand out for Perry was witnessing the brilliant ensemble work of his fellow cast members. "This was the first time I realized, 'Gee, this is really clicking,'" Perry exclaimed. The chemistry among the actors and the undeniable success of the show became an indelible part of Perry's legacy as an actor.

Tragically, Perry passed away at the age of 54. His Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, gathered to remember him at a service held on November 3. They released a joint statement expressing their devastation and emphasizing their deep bond as a family.

In the weeks following Perry's death, his co-stars individually paid tribute to him on social media, highlighting his talent and kindness. Aniston expressed her love for Perry and described the emotions she experienced while saying goodbye. LeBlanc's farewell acknowledged their friendship and included a typical touch of humor.

Matthew Perry's impact on Friends and the world will always be remembered.
