Carl Grimes was a prominent character on The Walking Dead, but his age throughout the series remained a topic of confusion. Despite the drastic events he experienced, Carl didn't age much between the beginning of the apocalypse and his death in Season 8. As the son of Rick and Lori Grimes, Carl was initially introduced as a fearful child. 

However, he quickly grew up and went through rebellious phases, ultimately meeting a tragic end in Season 8. The timeline of the show was often unclear, with significant events happening in a condensed timeframe. Carl was around 14-15 years old when he was bitten and died.

He never got the chance to experience adulthood like his father. While fans still debate Carl's age, it ultimately doesn't matter. He was a young boy thrust into a harsh world and portrayed the naivety, uneasiness, and courage that made him an unspoken hero. If Carl had lived until the end of the series, he would have been around 25 years old. 

The show attempted to make up for his early demise by aging up his sister Judith and giving her a significant role. It's speculated that in the upcoming spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Carl would have been 25-27 and could have stepped up as a leader to carry on his father's legacy. Overall, Carl's age was overshadowed by the impact he made as a character in the series.
