The upcoming season adapts the seventh novel in Diana Gabaldon's book series, An Echo in the Bone. It follows Jamie and Young Ian as they race to rescue Claire, while being caught in the midst of the American Revolution. The series will end after its eighth season, with the possibility of adapting select parts of future novels. Starz has also ordered a prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will explore the love story between Jamie's parents. The main cast members, including Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan, will return for the seventh season.
