WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Outlander season 7 and all the Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon
With the Droughtlander now in full force and the second half of season seven not landing until 2024, many Outlander fans are re-visiting the previous seasons and novels by Diana Gabaldon.
Some may have noticed a big change between the Outlander midseason finale and the seventh novel An Echo in the Bone.
In the show, Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) sustained quite a few injuries during the first Battle of Saratoga.
He even hurt his hand with his wife Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) having to stitch him up.
After coming close to death once again, Jamie was mended by Claire's impressive medical knowledge from the 20th century with his hand as good as new in the series.

In An Echo in The Bone, things took a more sinister turn for Jamie and the Highlander had to have his finger amputated by Claire.
Jamie's hand sustained a particularly nasty wound with one digit pretty much destroyed, hence the need to remove it.
The extreme measure may have been left out of the show for the ease of continuity purposes.
