A Guide to Every 'Yellowstone' Prequel and Spinoff Series, Including '1883,' '1923,' '6666'
2023/10/24

Attention, Yellowstone fans! On May 5, Paramount revealed that the popular series will conclude after its fifth season. However, there is good news for fans of the Dutton family. The remaining episodes of the first half of Yellowstone season 5 will be available to stream on Peacock starting May 25. The second half of the season will air in November 2023, depending on the duration of the current writers' strike. Even though the original Yellowstone series is ending, a new spinoff has been ordered by the studio. While the official title has not been announced yet, it has been confirmed that the spinoff will include "Yellowstone" in its name.

The untitled series is set to debut on Paramount Network and Paramount+ in December. Unlike the original series, which is exclusively available on Peacock, the spinoff will be accessible on Paramount's platforms. Although the cast for the spinoff has not been confirmed, rumors suggest that Matthew McConaughey may be involved in a Dutton-centric spinoff. ViacomCBS President Chris McCarthy addressed these rumors, stating that they are progressing with the McConaughey-led series. However, it is unclear whether McConaughey will appear in the spinoff with the Yellowstone title or star in a separate spinoff.

While fans eagerly await more information, there are other Yellowstone-related projects to look forward to. "1883" is a prequel that follows the ancestors of the Dutton family on their journey to Montana. It premiered in December 2021 and features a star-studded cast including Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Another spinoff titled "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" will merge with "1883" to form an anthology series. The upcoming show will depict the legendary lawman Bass Reeves and is set to star David Oyelowo. Additionally, "1923" premiered in December 2022 and follows the Dutton family as they face various challenges in the early 20th century.

The series stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, and a second season has been confirmed. Finally, "6666" is a series set in West Texas that explores a real cattle ranch. Details about the premiere date and cast are still unknown. Lastly, there have been talks of a spinoff led by Matthew McConaughey. Though it is unclear whether McConaughey will be part of the recently announced spinoff, Paramount has expressed interest in partnering with the talented actor. The upcoming spinoff, which will have Yellowstone in its name, is scheduled to air on Paramount+.
