It is revealed that the central plot of will center on Laurent, with Daryl being tasked to protect and deliver him to parts unknown.
As such, Laurent will be the key to Daryl's journey in France. While the trailer also makes it clear that Daryl did not intend to end up in France, the developments surrounding Laurent will likely make Daryl's moral compass force him to begrudgingly accept to help.
This is backed up by his close relationship with Judith in the latter seasons of , which helps to inform why he would agree to help Laurent.

This seems to hint at a massive twist for
universe, in that Laurent may hold some type of cure for the zombie disease that has plagued mankind. It seems is taking heavy inspiration from properties like , with Daryl tasked to protect a child who holds some kind of key to saving humanity. This explains why Daryl needs to protect Laurent, and why the latter will be so integral to the former's journey come the release of on September 10, 2023.
