Yellowstone season 5 part 2 hasn't been canceled, despite the widely covered behind-the-scenes drama leading to rumors that production couldn't continue. Luke Grimes gave a Yellowstone season 5 update in July and confirmed that filming would not be commencing until the strike was resolved. He shared that the dispute with the AMPTP "takes precedence over everything. They got to get that all sorted, and then we'll be getting after it." With the SAG-AFTRA strike still ongoing filming for the final episodes of Yellowstone season 5 presumably hasn't resumed, although this hasn't stopped paramount from confirming a release window.
The Yellowstone season 5, part 2 release date has been set for November 2024, over a year after it was originally pegged to premiere (though a specific date in his November 2024 window hasn't been disclosed). Paramount initially announced plans of releasing the 8-episode second part of Yellowstone season 5 in the summer of 2023.
Part 1 of season 5 also began airing its eight episodes in November 2022 and wrapped up in January 2023, and the break was only supposed to be for a few months.
The Yellowstone season 5 part 2 filming delay caused by disputes between Kevin Costner pushed the release date back, with the WGA and then SAG-AFTRA strikes delaying the final episodes of Yellowstone even further.Everyone in the main cast of Yellowstone season 5, part 1 will be returning for part 2. This means that Beth (Kelly Reilly), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) will be reprising their respective roles.
Where there is uncertainty is around Kevin Costner, who may not be returning for the ending of Yellowstone due to disputes with creator Taylor Sheridan. Nothing has been made official either way yet, but it is difficult to envision Yellowstone withotu John Dutton. The same will be true for Broken Rock Indian Reservation mainstays Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Burmingham) and Mo (Moses Brings Plenty), as well as Dutton ranch cowboys Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Lloyd Pierce (Forrie J. Smith), and Carter (Finn Little). Governor Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) and Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) will also be returning.
With the Yellowstone cowboys headed to the Four Sixes, they're also bound to reunite with Jimmy (Jefferson White).Yellowstone season 5, part 2 will be building towards the end of the show. Upon finding out about the Train Station in part 1, the first thing Beth does is to suggest to John that they need to kill Jamie, who, in turn, is conspiring with Sarah Atwood to make the first move. For the first time in the show, Yellowstone season 5, part 2 could see the Dutton's fighting without Rip by their side, as Rip leads the ranch hands' journey with the cattle to Texas — possibly connecting the main series to the upcoming 6666 spinoff.
Meanwhile, with Jamie's impeachment attempt against John hanging over the governor's head, John Dutton's conservation easement plan for the ranch could get overtaken by Jamie and Sarah's schemes to commercialize the property. Broken Rock representatives Chief Thomas Rainwater, Mo, and Angela Blue-Thunder could still turn the tide, depending on how the Duttons' plans could affect the federal government running a pipeline through the reservation. It sets the stage for an epic end to Yellowstone where there will surely be a number of casualties by the time season 5 part 2 concludes.
