After a shorter eighth season of Outlander, executive producer Matthew B Roberts promised that the show intends to keep "Droughtlander," the gap between seasons, to a minimum. Filming for season seven is currently underway, and stars such as Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have been sharing updates with their fans on social media. Heughan posted a humorous moment from filming with co-star David Berry on Twitter. The seventh season will feature 16 episodes and will be based on the events of the novel An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon. It is set to premiere in summer 2023.
